Status and Distribution of the Bank Swallow in Portugal

The Bank Swallow is a breeding and migratory bird species in continental Portugal. The Bank Swallow is present throughout Portugal from north to south, from February to October, being more abundant on the coast and in low-lying areas near rivers. Known colonies exist in the Tagus estuary, Vale do Sorraia, Paul da Barroca, and in the Algarve during migrations.

Until end of 2025, we have had 4 sightings of Bank Swallows on our land, occurring either in April or September, seeing only 1 or 2 individuals.
